Art in the Chuckanut Garden: Plein Air Drawing, Painting, Sculpture

Note: This is a month long class and meets every Saturday of the month unless noted. Registration fee is for all Saturdays and you cannot register after the first class has met.
Every month, local artist Rebecca Meloy shares a different theme and expressions on that theme as participants bring garden and art together at the Chuckanut Center. You will explore basic drawing and painting skills, no experience necessary, ages 8 and up are welcome to attend! Each month will include a challenging garden sculptural project focus. Featuring drawing and painting techniques along with a featured garden art project each month.
June Theme: Bird Art
Bird Art June $180, four sessions. Basic drawing or painting skills each week. The June
sculptural focus is to design and make a bird sculpture or a birdhouse to be mounted on a post or tall pole and then installed at the Chuckanut Center Gardens for the summer. You may use any found materials that you bring to class from driftwood, to pots and pans. The instructor will supply and operate any cutting / drilling equipment. The Instructor will supply screws, bolts, wire, and tools for assembly.
*Design and make unique garden sculpture.
*Create images of the garden, grounds, and house of the Chuckanut Center.
*Register by the month and spend your Saturday mornings with us. Classes run June 5, 12, 19, 26
*Students have the opportunity to share their artworks during Summer Art Walk events, the last Saturdays of the month.
Artist Rebecca Meloy has mentored students for many decades. A few of the venues include her Meloy & Company Gallery, Whatcom Community College, Summer Art in the Garden Camps at her home for 17 years, Cordova Alaska during the salmon fishing season and through the Allied Arts of Whatcom County Art in Public Schools program. She is a life-long artist whom has exhibited art throughout the region, at museums and in Helsinki Finland.
A few more details:
Bring your own art supplies. We will work with materials you already own. And throughout each month-long class, you can obtain more art supplies, as you desire. Some months will have an additional materials fee for larger supplies needed. This fee is due at time of class on the first day.
For basic painting and drawing you may bring pastels, watercolors, oils, pencils, pens, ink, charcoal, brushes, water container, rags, paper, pads, brushes, a journal, etc. And you are welcome to bring a portable easel, folding chair if you need comfort to set up anywhere within the garden. Dress appropriately for the weather in clothes that can get messy.
Be sure to put your supplies in some form of carrying cases (i.e. suitcase, fishing tackle box, and a portfolio for papers / canvases).
